My wife and I have a similar phobia. Fear of depths. It's similar to fear of heights, but relates to the depth of water below the surface.

I was born a swimmer. My body is lean and built for swimming. My feet are natural flippers. But the mere thought of being on water that's incredible deep scares the bejesus out of me. I've never understood why...
